Game On: Edge Esports Invites All Coastal Bend High School Gamers To Join Team
The EDGE Esports Foundation just got an amazing local spotlight – KRIS 6 News aired a fantastic segment on our Competitive Esports Program, highlighting our tryouts, new coach, and the transformative opportunities we’re bringing to Coastal Bend middle school and high school gamers!
KRIS 6 Captures the Action
Sports Director Larissa Liska and the KRIS-TV team visited us during the exciting first day of tryouts, where teens were going head-to-head in Super Smash Bros. and Fortnite.

The story featured insightful interviews with our brand-new Gaming Coach Stephen “Solarith” Peterson – the retired Halo pro who competed alongside Tyler “Ninja” Blevins and other legends – as well as Team Captain Kannon Cisneros, and the Founder and Head Coach of EDGE Esports, Rachel Lebowitz.
Coach Peterson shared his journey from the early days of esports to seeing it become a mainstream phenomenon with million-dollar prizes and diverse career paths (from production to cyber security).
Kannon opened up about how the program has helped him make friends, get more social, and dive deeper into the games he loves.
And Rachel emphasized EDGE’s mission to provide underserved teens with esports, STEM education, leadership training, and real-world skills.

Celebrating Our Achievements
The news piece also celebrated EDGE’s recent achievements: top placements at state championships, tournaments across Texas, and invitations to events like DreamHack Dallas.

At EDGE, it’s more than just gaming – it’s also about building confidence, character, college readiness – and yes, even potential college scholarships!
A Heartfelt Thank You
A massive thank you to Larissa Liska and KRIS 6 for this enthusiastic coverage. It perfectly captures why we’re passionate about growing esports right here in Corpus Christi and inviting all middle school and high school students in the Coastal Bend to join the program.
